Next Stop: Melbourne, Australia

PORTLAND, OR, November 09, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ — For more than a decade, violin virtuoso Andrew Sords has been on a mission to bring classical music’s most esteemed concerti and often forgotten masterpieces to audiences in the U.S. and abroad amid a punishing schedule and non-stop rehearsals. But for the much sought-after soloist and chamber musician, it’s all part of a great love affair he’s been having with classical music since the age of five, when he asked his parents for music lessons. Piano came first, the violin came at six. Having received accolades on four continents for performances showcasing his signature virtuosity and ravishing tone, Sords is slated to embark on a much anticipated Australian tour this month, which also features two other highly noted artists: Luke Severn, cello, and Elyane Laussade, piano. The trio will perform three concerts featuring major works by Mozart, Rachmaninoff and Mendelssohn. The first of the three performances begins Thursday, November 15th, at 7 PM, at the High Street Uniting Church, Frankston, 16-18 High Street, Frankston Victoria. As to program insights, Sords said, “Mozart’s chamber music has always remained a sparkling jewel in the literature. One can’t help but grin at the brimming optimism and catchy tunes. The Rachmaninoff is an early work written when the composer was 18. It’s funereal character haunts and glooms. Then Mendelssohn’s scurrying, brisk piano trio closes, referencing his “Midsummer Night’s Dream,” an Andante that’s truly a “Song Without Words”; and the Finale that borrows from the German Lutheran chorale “Gelobet seist du Jesu Christ.” Mendelssohn’s last chamber work is a barnburner and a fitting closer to our Australia programs,” he added.

The second concert is scheduled for Saturday, November 17th, 7 PM, at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, 360 Church St., Richmond Victoria. Tickets can be purchased at trybooking.com/XOZK. The closing concert is set for Sunday, November 18th, at 2:30 PM, Wesley of Warragul, 62 Victoria Street, Warragul. Tickets can be purchased at trybooking.com/XTVK

On Sords, who is equally popular with orchestral conductors as well as chamber musicians, Severn had this to say, “After touring Canada with Andrew performing an all Brahms programme last year, it’s a huge thrill for me to be able to bring Andrew out to my hometown for what I know will be an equally thrilling tour of great music.”

The three artists will be featured on a live-to-air broadcast in a 40 minute performance and radio interview on 3MBS Fine Music Melbourne on103.5 FM Tuesday, November 13th, from 7:00 PM to 8 PM.

As to Sords’ philosophy about his program choices overall, he added, “Over the course of touring, I have been passionate about programming repertoire both standard and obscure. Music is truly the universal language. The audience will emote and respond even if they don’t speak your mother tongue. After a decade of concertizing, I feel music more deeply than ever. As long as I have something to say with the violin, I will remain on stage…and with musical colleagues like Elyane and Luke, there’s nowhere else I’d rather be.”
