NORWALK, CT, May 11, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — Fabricare Cleaners is a full-service, eco-friendly cleaner in Fairfield County with a family of brands that handle dry cleaning, laundry, home furnishing cleaning, linen cleaning, bridal & specialty preservation & restoration, and more. Fabricare is passionate about its customers and constantly strives to provide the best possible service. For the past 35 years, the Fabricare team of experts has been highly trained in caring for all types of materials and has the knowledge to remove all kinds of stains – even ones on the most delicate of materials.

As part of Fabricare’s intent to be the best cleaner throughout Fairfield and Westchester Counties, the company stays on top of trends and best practices when it comes to products, equipment, processes, and overall how business is done.

One of the many ways Fabricare stays at the forefront of the industry is by participating in associations and attending conferences. This April, owner Michael Astorino was thrilled to be able to attend the Finest Cleaners of America (FCA) annual meeting in Washington, D.C. This group historically meets each year, but due to COVID, this was the first time the group has been able to meet since 2019.

In addition to Connecticut’s Fabricare, other cleaners in attendance represented cities and states across the country including Boston, West Hartford, Larchmont, D.C., New York City, Cleveland, Chicago, Dallas, and Miami. Jon Simon of D.C. hosted this year’s meeting and invited the group to his new plant that opened in March of 2020 at the height of Covid.

During this year’s meeting, much of the agenda touched upon the many industry changes since the start of COVID and how cleaners have had to change the way they do business. Many dry cleaners went out of business during the pandemic as work attire changed to leisure wear while employees were working out of their homes (and many still are!). In order to stay in business, cleaners had to transform their business. Fabricare, for example, put a lot more focus into laundry and linen services as well as home furnishing cleaning as dry cleaning demands began to diminish.

After not meeting for almost 4 years and the industry was hit hard by Covid, the first question on the agenda was “Why are you still here?”

“If it wasn’t for the fact that 80% of our business is delivery coupled with the fact that we diversified into cleaning household items in addition to dry cleaning, I don’t think I’d be sitting in this meeting.” – Fabricare owner, Mike Astorino

Another trend that kept many cleaners in business was staying on top of green technologies and environmental initiatives, which is an exciting topic for Fabricare as they have a big focus on being an eco-conscious cleaner. One of the sponsors for the meeting was Kreusler which makes the finest eco-friendly solvents and soaps in the industry Kreussler Inc.

A big takeaway from the meeting was that there is a consolidation going on in the dry cleaning business with many businesses closing last year and more expected to close this year. This fact along with a diversification strategy are cause for optimism for Fabricare and others in the group.

The team at Fabricare is excited to put the learnings into action and continue to offer more expertise and top-level service to all of their customers.
